Unveiling the Bandit Outlaw: A 2024 Chevy Trax with a Legendary Twist

In the realm of automotive creativity, there are virtually no limits. While we’ve explored some of the most unusual car transformations in the past, such as the infamous 1998 Mercedes E430 “death kart” and the quirky VW Beetle turned pickup truck, there’s something uniquely captivating about contemporary automotive oddities. Among the high-performance beasts like the 1,500-horsepower Yenko Camaro that roam the streets, there’s a new, one-of-a-kind gem to behold: the 2024 Chevy Trax, meticulously painted to resemble a Pontiac Firebird Trans Am.

Introducing the “Bandit Outlaw” edition, a masterpiece set to take center stage at the upcoming Mecum Las Vegas auction. This awe-inspiring creation appears to be the handiwork of the same masterminds responsible for several other “Bandit Outlaw” editions, including a Chevy Silverado and a Jeep Gladiator. Despite their shared design elements like the signature Bandit lettering and distinctive pinstriping, it’s intriguing to note that no specific individuals or entities seem to take credit for these remarkable automotive transformations. Notably, this Trax version doesn’t appear to be associated with the Camaro-based Trans Am tribute builds by Trans Am Specialties or Trans Am Worldwide.

Inspired by the iconic film “Smokey and the Bandit,” where the late Burt Reynolds portrayed a fearless bootlegger transporting 400 cases of beer in a Pontiac Trans Am, the “Bandit Outlaw” Trax sports the same black and gold livery, complete with the famous flaming bird adorning its hood. As an additional touch of panache, the hood features a sculpted power bulge, a modern interpretation of the original movie car’s design. While the movie Trans Am lacked the “Bandit” decal and the pinstriping present on the Trax, this contemporary tribute captures the spirit of the classic.

However, beneath the eye-catching paint job, this Trax remains in its stock condition and is almost brand new, with a mere 146 miles on its 1.2-liter turbo three-cylinder engine and six-speed automatic transmission. This suggests that it could serve as a practical yet exciting choice for those who appreciate the eccentric side of life during their daily commutes. Where else can you find a “one-of-one” Chevy Trax quite like this?
