Back in 1984, the AE86, officially named the Corolla Sport GT-S liftback or Sprinter Trueno, made its debut. Initially, it didn’t seem to have the typical traits of a sporty car, boasting a relatively modest 1.6-liter twin-cam four-cylinder engine at the front and a rather unassuming design. Nonetheless, with its rear-wheel drive, limited-slip differential, and a svelte curb weight just over 2300 pounds, the AE86 quickly became a darling of the tight and twisty roads. It emerged as a true icon in the Japanese motorsport community, participating in everything from hill climbs to heart-pounding drifting events. The GR86 TRUENO Edition is easily recognizable thanks to its exclusive two-tone paint options, featuring a base coat in either white or red, complemented by a black hood and matching side graphics. This striking theme extends to the rear duckbill spoiler, which also sports a sleek black finish. Other highlights include distinctive TRUENO Edition badges on the front lip and rear deck, along with bespoke 18-inch wheels. This package includes upgraded Sachs dampers and a set of high-performance Brembo brakes. Interestingly, these performance components will also be made available for all 2024 GR86 customers and owners of 22MY and newer vehicles equipped with 18-inch wheels. While Toyota hasn’t released the pricing details for the Performance Package just yet, we can anticipate that information being unveiled shortly.
As you step inside the GR86 TRUENO Edition, you’ll be welcomed by Ultrasuede and red leather sport seats, adorned with red accent stitching on the steering wheel, shift boot, and various interior surfaces. The TRUENO Edition boasts a few unique interior features, including logoed floor mats, an exclusive shift knob, and a serialized number plate. Since the TRUENO Edition is based on the Premium spec car, you can expect luxurious amenities like an 8-inch central touch screen, a premium eight-speaker audio system, and full compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Additionally, Toyota’s comprehensive suite of active safety features will be standard across all manual-equipped GR86 models for 2024.

Only 860 units of the 2024 Toyota GR86 TRUENO Edition will be available in the U.S., and the pricing details will be revealed closer to the on-sale date.
