Deadpool and Wolverine will meet Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman for the first time since 2009 Wolverine: Origins.
Reynolds revealed in September 2022 that his real-life friend would be joining the film via a comedic announcement video. “Hey Hugh, do you want to play Wolverine one more time?” Reynolds asked Jackman in the clip, to which he responded, “Yeah, right, Ryan.”
The film will mark the introduction of the X-Men characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy characters were previously linked in the Disney-owned MCU, produced by Marvel Studios. Meanwhile, the mutants previously lived in 20th Century Fox's X-Men universe. However, Disney now owns Fox, so Deadpool can exist alongside the Avengers for the first time.
“It's not that adding Hugh Jackman to a movie like this is a hard sell. “It’s an immediate, emphatic, resounding yes,” Reynolds said. Collider in November 2022. “It's a lot of moving parts and Fox and X-Men and all that kind of stuff that Marvel needs to figure out. A lot of bureaucracy to make that happen. And they did it.”
