Eddie Redmayne Returns to Broadway in ‘Cabaret’

Eddie Redmayne is set to reprise his role as the Emcee in the upcoming Broadway revival of ‘Cabaret,’ alongside newcomer Gayle Rankin, known for her role in ‘Glow.’ The production, directed by Rebecca Frecknall, will begin previews at the August Wilson Theatre on April 1, 2024, with the official opening night scheduled for April 21.

Following the success of the London production, the Broadway team plans to transform the August Wilson Theatre into a captivating in-the-round auditorium with “sinfully dreamlike spaces” for pre-show entertainment, drinks, and food. Tom Scutt serves as the club’s scenic and costume designer, while Julia Cheng takes on the role of choreographer.

Eddie Redmayne, who previously won an Olivier Award for his performance in the London production, is an Academy Award winner renowned for his roles in films like ‘The Theory of Everything,’ ‘The Trial of the Chicago Seven,’ and the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ series. He’s also a seasoned stage actor, having received both Tony and Olivier Awards for his work in productions such as ‘The Goat, Or Who is Sylvia?,’ ‘Now or Later,’ ‘Richard II,’ and ‘Red.’ In addition to acting, Redmayne serves as a producer for the Broadway production, as he did in the West End.

Gayle Rankin, famous for her role as Sheila the She-Wolf in Netflix’s ‘Glow,’ has an impressive repertoire both on screen and stage. Her recent work includes ‘Kindred’ on FX and the second season of HBO’s ‘House of the Dragon.’ On film, she’s appeared in ‘The Climb,’ ‘Blow The Man Down,’ and ‘Her Smell.’ Rankin’s most recent stage appearance was in ‘Hamlet’ at the Public Theater, where she played Ophelia alongside Oscar Isaac.

Redmayne and Rankin are scheduled to perform through August 31, with Redmayne taking Monday evenings off starting June 17, and Rankin having Wednesday matinees off.
