Developer Turn 10 Studios' previously promised overhaul of Forza Motorsport's controversial car progression system arrives today, March 11, on Xbox Series X/S and PC.
Turn 10 confirmed it would be overhauling Forza Motorsport's much-maligned car progression system in January, as part of a conciliatory blog post that also promised improvements to other key areas, including driver AI and race regulations.
Driver AI was the focus of a major free update later that month, and now it's the car's turn to progress. Today's improvements, which arrive as part of what Turn 10 calls Update 6, make a number of adjustments, starting with the ability for players to equip the car parts they want to install regardless of car level.
Forza Motorsport – Update 6 OverviewStarting with today's update, tier restrictions on performance parts have been removed, making them all available at car tier 1 so players can install them in any order they choose. “Whether it's engine changes, racing tires or body kits”, turn 10 write in your update notes“you will have the freedom to build cars your way.”
Additionally, players can now use in-game credits to purchase Car Points by exiting the upgrade screen, where 4,500 credits equal 500 Car Points. If players prefer to save their credits, it is still possible to earn car points for upgrades through car leveling, as before.
Away from car progression, Update 6 marks the start of a new Featured Tour, as well as a new calendar of multiplayer and Rivals events. It also makes adjustments to the Daytona pit-lane exit and introduces eight new music tracks, with Full patch notes available on the Forza website.
As for race regulations, the latest area of improvement promised by Forza Motorsport, Turn 10 has yet to offer a timeline for completing that work, beyond what was said in January that the required data collection would take at least “a few months.”
