Staff members at British video games giant GAME have been told to expect redundancies, Eurogamer understands, as the company moves most employees onto zero-hours contracts.
GAME has already hired new junior staff members, called “cast members,” on zero-hour contracts. Eurogamer understands that the chain will now employ the majority of non-managerial staff on zero-hours contracts in the future.
Several staff members who spoke to Eurogamer on condition of anonymity today confirmed the changes and said the decision to make zero-hour contacts standard across the company was not unexpected. Eurogamer has contacted GAME for comment.
Staff who would be affected by the redundancies were informed that they would be contacted separately, either by phone or email. It is currently unclear how many jobs are expected to be lost.
GAME is currently in a transition phase where high street outlets have been replaced by smaller GAME concessions in Sports Direct and House of Fraser stores. The move also led to the end of GAME's trading service, as Eurogamer first reported in January.
GAME has been part of the Frasers Group since 2019, when the company accepted a takeover bid worth £52 million.
