Fans will be in for a lot of changes when Goosebumps returns for its second season on Disney+.
The horror series, which premiered in October 2023, was inspired by R.L. StineThe popular horror novels. Goosebumps was billed as a show that followed five teenagers who had to work together after accidentally releasing supernatural forces into their small town. While trying to retrieve the evil spirits, the group discovered secrets from their parents' past.
Executive producers nicolas stoller and Rob Letterman previously opened to Us weekly about his vision of the show.
“The whole idea of the show was to create a set of characters that coexist in a city and individually go through the stories from the different books and then cross paths,” Letterman detailed in November 2023. “So, the nature of doing it [a] serialized [series], we were inventing our entire world and our characters. But then when we reassigned it to the books, it came down to banning the premise and the totems.”

Stoller, meanwhile, discussed the decision to develop multiple mysteries at once.
“The books are independent. As soon as we serialized it, we moved it away from the books a little bit. But the tone of the books was not to belittle children. That was something we really wanted to make sure of this season: that the horror aspects happened because the characters caused them. “They weren’t just victims of something.”
Goosebumps initially starred Isa Briones, Ana Yi Puig, Zack Morris, Miles McKenna and Price as protagonists of the program. However, when the series was renewed four months later, Disney confirmed that there would be a change to the cast and story.

When will the show return?

What is the plot of the program?
According to the official logline, season 2 will feature teenage siblings who “discover a stirring threat, setting off a chain of events that reveal a deep mystery. As they venture into the unknown, the duo becomes embroiled in the chilling story of four teenagers who mysteriously disappeared in 1994.

David Schwimmer has been cast as Anthony, who is a “former botany professor and divorced father of teenage twins whose world takes a tumultuous turn as he juggles the responsibilities of supervising an elderly father while having his children over the summer.”

What books will the second season be inspired by?
According to Schwimmer's character description, one of the books explored in season 2 would be Stay out of the basement. The novel focused on a doctor, father of two children, who was testing plants in his basement. However, his children quickly began to wonder how harmless plants were when his father developed plant tendencies.

How involved is author RL Stine in the show?
According to the executive producers Conor Welch and Pavun ShettyStine gave the Disney+ show his seal of approval.
“Receiving an email from RL Stine after seeing the driver saying he was delighted with what we had done with his property was a real highlight of his career,” Welch said.
