“The Thomas Crown Affair”

Home Entertainment Guide: February 2024

There's no movie cooler than “The Thomas Crown Affair,” one of the best films of Norman Jewison's remarkable career and one of the gentlest of the '60s. Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway were at the peak of their screen powers when they co-starred in this massive heist film, a film that rewrote the cinematic language of the genre. Kino Lorber has restored the classic film in 4K, accompanying it with excellent archival features including set footage and a commentary track from Jewison. If that's not enough, they also have a new interview with the director, now one of the last ones he approved in January 2024. Check this one out in his honor.

“Trolls: unite”

Home Entertainment Guide: February 2024

It's funny what a difference a few years can make and being able to leave the house. When my family and I watched the second “Trolls” movie at the beginning of the pandemic in 2020, we found it to be a fun diversion from real-world pain. Four years later, the third film in this series seems like a stretch. Of course, it doesn't help that the writing here is significantly worse, pushing the boy band narrative into this world largely just to maximize the casting of Justin Timberlake, who also sounds a little tired of pulling this stunt. That said, the Universal Blu-ray release is usually LOADED with special features, including a sing-along version for those who still enjoy visiting this world more than I do.
