Dune: Part Two is a continuation of the events that occur in Denis Villenueve's 2021 film, Dune. Additionally, he follows the journey of Paul Atreides and all the people he meets along their journey to reach their full potential and honor his lineage. The original film also featured some creatures that were specific to the world of the film, such as the Muad'Dib, and most notably the gigantic, creepy sandworms. The natives of the science fiction tale, known as Fremen, ride worms to quickly get from place to place in the desert. in the new movie, The audience sees the incredible strength required to ride a sandworm, yet we never see Fremen emerge from the terrifying creatures. Therefore, when it comes to a book-to-screen adaptation, it is understandable that some content is cut during the screenwriting process. Denis Villeneuve is incredibly knowledgeable about Herbert's fictional universe, but he still made the careful decision to never show the Fremen dismounting from the sandworms after mounting them. However, this doesn't mean he doesn't have ideas on that front. He said IndieWire:
I knew how. I found a way. It wasn't dramatically necessary in 'Dune: Part Two' to see someone crawl out of the worm, but I know how to do it. And I can't wait to put that on screen.
While fans were hoping to see this process in the long-awaited sequel, they shouldn't worry. It seems like the director has every intention of showing this off eventually, giving more functional context to the world at the center of the franchise. This statement also suggests that the filmmaker has every hope of making a third Dune movie. As a fan, I wonder if taking apart a sandworm is as cinematic as the process of getting one of the desert-dwelling creatures. There are unforgettable sequences in both films of Fremen climbing onto sandworms to ride them, and due to the size of the beasts, one can imagine that it takes an immense amount of physical strength and coordination to do such a thing. The Fremen are desert people and know worms better than anyone, so even if disassembling is a difficult task, they probably make it look easy.
The imposing creatures are incredibly important to the story and world of Dune, so it's no surprise that Denis Villeneuve has put a lot of thought into how to use them. He has answered several questions about sandworms in the past, but still keeps some knowledge close to the chest to avoid spoiling the epic story. It may not all make it to film, but I'm glad to know that Villeneuve still intends to expand on this aspect of the Fremen even further.
