This year marks the 25th anniversary of that time. Lana and Lilly Wachowski left the world speechless by showing us what Matrix It really was. Still considered one of the best science fiction movies Of all time, the ensemble directed by Keanu Reeves swept the box office with a unique combination of philosophy and action.
In light of how the most recent entry left things, no one was sure if we would ever get The matrix 5; but it seems that we will indeed reconnect. However, some key information in Warner Bros.' project announcement (via Variety) have me seriously conflicted about how to feel about this news.
Let's start with the bittersweet part: while The Wachowskis will be the executive producers of this sequel to The Matrix Resurrections, they will not write or direct the next chapter. That makes this untitled project the first time in the series that both publications don't have a Wachowski behind the wheel.
Instead,The Martian and Bad times at El Royale Writer Drew Goddard is available to write and direct. The matrix 5. So it's not that the series is being handed over to a newbie with a “bold new vision,” but rather to an established writer who has apparently offered up his own new version that could be just as bold.
Explaining some of the thought process that made this project possible, Jesse Ehrman, president of production for Warner Bros. film division, had this to say:
Drew came to Warner Bros. with a new idea that we all think would be an incredible way to continue the world of The Matrix, honoring what Lana and Lilly started over 25 years ago and offering a unique perspective based on his own love of the series. and characters. The entire Warner Bros. Discovery team is thrilled that Drew is making this new 'Matrix' movie, adding his vision to the cinematic canon the Wachowskis spent a quarter-century building here at the studio.
The matrix 5 It's currently a total mystery, except for the fact that it apparently exists on the board. While this project in development currently has no date, you can be sure that it will be followed with quite a bit of enthusiasm.
