No Man's Sky Orbital update overhauls space stations today

Orbital, the 27th major update for No Man's Sky, arrives today and will revamp the game's space stations.

These deep space locations can now be “vast, procedurally generated, and incredibly diverse,” developer Hello Games said today in announcing the update. The goal is to make the space stations feel larger, more individual and offer new activities and shops to explore. Here you will also find the new guild system, with envoys to visit.

Advances in space stations mean that No Man's Sky can now offer customization for basic spaceships as well. The much-requested addition of a ship editor means you can now collect and swap parts and cobble together entirely new ship types. Here's what it all looks like in action:

If you're especially interested in having a fleet of ships, you can now send fleets of frigates on remote missions and perform “daring” rescues yourself if they get into trouble.

Hello Games is now hard at work on its next project, the procedural fantasy planetary adventure Light No Fire, a game about “adventure, building, survival and exploration together” in an Earth-sized world. It's not yet known exactly when it will be released, but in the meantime work continues on No Man's Sky features.
