Pokémon Go appears to add the Fuse mechanic, as Necrozma confirmed for Go Fest

It looks like Pokémon Go will add a new mechanic to the main series Pokémon games: the concept of Pokémon Fusion.

References to Fusion have been found in a new app datamine (thanks, PokéMiners), and gives a strong hint as to how the mechanic can be implemented, as well as which Pokémon it will activate for.

Fusion, which sees one separate Pokémon temporarily subsumed by another, would be a fun addition and it's fitting to add it now ahead of Necrozma's arrival at Go Fest 2024, teased by developer Niantic during this week's real-life solar eclipse, and now completely. confirmed will be available during this summer's Go Fest events through raids.

Necrozma is one of a limited number of Pokémon capable of fusing with other species to become even more powerful, specifically, with the legendary species of Pokémon Sun and Moon, Solgaleo or Lunala, to specifically become Duskmane Necrozma or Dawnwing Necrozma.

References to acquiring Lunar or Solar Fusion Energy found in the Pokémon Go files seem to imply that these new resources will be necessary to activate the Fusion process.

One method of acquiring these resources could be through raids for Solgaleo and Lunala, similar to how Mega Raids and Mega Energy currently operate in Pokémon Go, although this is just speculation on our part.

Interestingly, the datamine also lists two other Pokémon species that will support Fusion: the already available Kyurem, which can fuse with Zekrom or Reshiram, and the yet-to-be-released Calyrex, which can fuse with Glastrier or Spectrier. .

Late last year, Niantic accidentally released already merged versions of Kyureum before of correction It's a mistake.

The 2024 Go Fest events kick off in Sendai, Japan, from May 30 to June 2, before heading to the Spanish capital, Madrid, from June 14 to 16. After that, Go Fest returns to New York between July 5 and 7, before its global final for all players takes place in-game on July 13 and 14.
