Q-Tip is putting his musical talents to work by contributing to the theatrical rendition of Muhammad Ali’s life story.
The New York City native has officially taken on the role of music producer and co-lyricist for the upcoming ALI musical. Grammy Award-winning saxophonist and vocalist Casey Benjamin has also come on board as an associate music producer, along with Sean Mayes, who will serve as the music supervisor.

Together, these three accomplished artists are enhancing the team led by composer Teddy Abrams.
Teddy Abrams expressed his excitement, saying, “We are incredibly fortunate to have Q-Tip, Casey, and Sean on our music team. They are all exceptionally talented individuals with a deep understanding of music. They have already brought tremendous energy and inspiration to the project.”
Q-Tip, co-founder of A Tribe Called Quest, shared his personal connection to Muhammad Ali, stating, “Muhammad Ali has been an enduring source of inspiration for me. I’m looking forward to collaborating with Teddy, Clint, Casey, Sean, and the entire creative team to convey the incredible man’s story through this medium.”
ALI is set to make its debut in Louisville, Kentucky, before heading to Broadway at the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts in the fall of 2024. The musical’s lead producer, Richard Willis, and book writer Clint Dyer are enthusiastic about the project.
Clint Dyer stated, “I’m thrilled to work with Q-Tip, one of my musical idols and the perfect person to help us tell Muhammad Ali’s story. Co-writing the lyrics for ALI with him will be a great honor.”
