Sea of Stars has co-op multiplayer on the way

Sea of Stars will receive a cooperative mode that will allow three players to go on adventures together.

What's more, the indie role-playing game has surpassed five million players since its launch last year.

In Single Player+, as it is known, a new “cooperative timed hits” mechanic will require all three players to participate in the game's rhythm-based battle system. The mode is “currently in development” and more details will be coming soon.

That battle system is a throwback to Chrono Trigger and Super Mario RPG, the main inspiration for the game's retro style.

Developer Sabotage Studio has released a fast forward video how the scan will work.

The studio is also working on DLC for the game, as previously confirmed. Titled “Throes of the Watchmaker” according to its initial Kickstarter campaign, it will offer a “full-fledged side adventure.” Presumably, Single Player+ is an extra to help fans out.

Sea of Stars launched in September last year on PC and consoles, including releases on PS Plus and Game Pass. Initially, it sold over 250,000 copies in just one week of sales.

The total of five million players probably covers both sales and subscription players.

After the release, I spoke with director Thierry Boulanger and composer Eric W. Brown about how the game's music captures the spirit of the past.
