Powerful Film ‘We Grown Now’ to Ignite Hearts as Sony Pictures Secures Its Release

Sony Pictures is all set to launch the highly acclaimed film “We Grown Now,” directed, written, and produced by Minhal Baig, who recently received the prestigious Changemaker Award at the Toronto International Film Festival. Baig expressed her excitement, stating, “I’m thrilled to have found a home for ‘We Grown Now with Sony Pictures Classics. The film beautifully captures the tender moments of childhood resilience and the strength of human connections amidst adversity.”

Set against the backdrop of Michael Jordan’s iconic 1992 season with the Chicago Bulls, “We Grown Now” follows the journey of two best friends, Malik and Eric, as they explore their beloved city to escape the monotony of school and the challenges of growing up in public housing. Their unshakable bond is put to the test when a tragedy strikes their community just as they are beginning to spread their wings.

The agreement with Sony was skillfully negotiated by SPC, with Liesl Copland, EVP, Content and Platform Strategy, Stacey Fong, SVP, Business and Legal Affairs, and Adam Macy, Senior Counsel, Business and Legal Affairs, representing Participant. Virginia Longmuir, EVP, Business Affairs for Stage 6 Films, also played a key role in the deal.

We Grown Now” boasts a talented cast, including Blake Cameron James, Gian Knight Ramirez, S. Epatha Merkerson, Avery Holliday, and Ora Jones. The film also features notable actors Lil Rel Howery and Jurnee Smollett.
