Ubisoft has revealed a new story trailer for Star Wars Outlaws and, with it, confirmation of the game's release date.
Fortunately, the blockbuster Star Wars adventure will be released sooner than many expected: August 30, 2024. Earn a few more credits for the Gold or Ultimate editions of the game, or subscribe to Ubisoft+ and you'll get three-day early access.
Today's trailer shows a cantina full of aliens and Star Wars sets. Fans will recognize groups like Crimson Dawn and Hutt Clan, Twi'leks, Mon Calamari and Quarren, and battles against TIE-Fighters and AT-ST.
“It's a golden age for the underworld. The Empire controls every corner of the galaxy, but they're distracted by a rebellion that won't give up,” says a saucy-looking villain named Sliro. “It's an opportunity to make millions.”
Step forward Kay Vess, Outlaw's protagonist and “the underworld's new favorite scoundrel,” who has crossed paths with Sliro's powerful crime syndicate, the Zerek Besh, who now want her dead.
We see Vess accept a mission from a fellow outlaw (is that Tobert from Only Murders in the Building?) to one-up Zerek Besh. Vess' plan? Steal Sliro's fortune and use the funds to buy his freedom.
Up next follows more of what we've seen before: Jabba the Hutt and Han Solo frozen in Carbonite, panoramic views of the game's open-world planets, your cute, axolotl-like friend Nix distracting guards and stealing items .
The trailer concludes with the bad guys suggesting that Vess is “mixed up in something bigger,” as we see Vess tangle with pirates, the Empire, and Dune-style sandworms. It's something exciting.
Star Wars Outlaws is the next game from The Division and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora studio Massive Entertainment. Disney had recently suggested that the game would arrive in late 2024, so its arrival sooner is a pleasant surprise.
The Gold Edition of Outlaws includes its Season Pass, which contains two DLCs, a launch-exclusive mission involving Jabba the Hutt, and some cosmetic items. The Ultimate Edition adds to that with more cosmetics and a digital art book.
As seen online, Star Wars Outlaws requires an internet connection to install the game, even with a physical copy.

The game is one of two major releases from publisher Ubisoft planned for this year, alongside the long-awaited Assassin's Creed: Codename Red, a samurai entry in the long-running landmark stabathon series.
