I love it, you love it, we all I love it. Let's talk about the best and worst things about all Disney Renaissance films.
That's right, those ten sacred films of the long-running Disney catalog who never seemed to hurt anyone. While I love those movies with all my heart, I can even say that there are some flaws in these otherwise fantastic movies.
Let's start with the first, and probably one of the best known.
The Little Mermaid (1989)
The best: are the vibrant colors and music. There are so many positive things about The little Mermaid, it's almost difficult to choose just one. But if I had to, I'd say the music and vibrant colors that the original animation brought to the big screen.
From “Under the Sea” to “Kiss the Girl,” the songs are some of the best out there, and the beautifully crafted scenes that accompany them make them even better.
The worst: King Triton is a real idiot – Look, Ariel is not my favorite princess. She ranks relatively low for me, considering she's a fairly naive teenager who doesn't know the world very well.
But Triton have Destroy all his things? At least this version of Triton is much more loving and protective than the one. live action version of this moviebut he is almost also protective, even terrifying. He's a jerk, to say the least, and I think he could have done better.
The Rescuers of Australia (1990)
The best: it's classic animation – Australia's rescuers It's the only sequel here, and if I had to pick the best, I'd say the overall animation. It reminds me of a lot of classic Disney movies from the early '50s and '60s, which is nice.
The worst: it is a forgettable plot – Even after rewatching this movie, I barely remember what happened. The plot is so forgettable that I doubt this movie is anyone's favorite from that era. It's a fun movie, but it's not the best overall.
Beauty and the Beast (1991)
The best: the love story between Beauty and the Beast – How could you get a better love story than Beauty and the Beast in Beauty and the Beast? This was the first animated film to earn a Best Picture nomination at the Oscars, before some of those fantastic Pixar movies that they have done it. It's just a perfect story.
The worst: “Human again” – Okay, so let's talk about “Human Again.” I know the song wasn't in the original release of the movie, so some people may not even know it, and consider themselves lucky.
Unfortunately, I grew up in the early 2000s when the song was added back into the movie, and in every watch I've ever seen, it's always been there. I could have gone my entire life without hearing that damn song “Human Again.” It doesn't fit the vibe of the movie, and those voices make my head want to implode. It should never have been added back. This is a Disney song I could have lived without.
Aladdin (1992)
The best: The genius – It could be said that the genius was one of Robin Williams' best roles in his carrer. I think that, among all the sidekicks in any Disney movie, Genie's genuine heart, sarcasm, and hilarity stand out above the rest, and I will always love him more since Aladdin.
The worst: how gullible Jasmine's father is. This man is a Sultan. That's a rulerto sovereign – also, he looks quite old, so how was he? so Gullible and able to rule for so long until Jafar somehow took power? Every scene he's in makes me roll my eyes.
The Lion King (1994)
The best: the incredible music of Hans Zimmer – Hans Zimmer's sheet music You literally never get lost. You can't sit there and tell me that when those opening chords of The Lion King hit, You don't feel chills. Every time I see it, I am instantly immersed.
The worst: Simba takes too long to grow – It is difficult to choose something The Lion King That's bad, considering it's a masterpiece. But if necessary, Simba's lack of responsibility is up to the task. I think this is almost a coming-of-age movie, and we see Simba grow into his ruler role, but it feels like he's moving forward. shape too slow – and people accept it again shape too fast after fleeing years.
Pocahontas (1995)
The best: “Colors of the wind” – I'd also like to mention “Just Around the Riverbend” a little bit, but “Colors of the Wind” is the real winner of Pocahontas. The lyrics are moving and teach us to appreciate the Earth instead of destroying it, and its meaning remains even today, more than twenty years later.
The worst: it is a historical inaccuracy and, in general, a forgettable love story. Do I even need to go that deep into this? Pocahontas has been criticized for years for its historical inaccuracy. And yet, the love story between Pocahontas and John Smith was so forgettable compared to many others here, and was further ruined by the unnecessary DVD sequel.
The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996)
The best: “Hellfire” – This song definite Disney villain songs.. No other Disney villain song has ever surpassed “Hellfire” by The Hunchback of Notre Dame. The landscape, the lyrics, the meaning – Ugh, it makes me shake every time I see it.
Worst: The fact that Quasimodo still ends up alone at the end – My poor man not only eliminated the man willing to take over Paris in the name of God, but he saved the girl of his dreams, only for her to end up with the conventionally attractive person. I feel very sorry for him. My heart hurts.
Hercules (1997)
The best: the songs are continuous hits. Hercules is an underrated hit, and the songs are never missing, not even for a single second. You'll get up and dance to “Zero to Hero.” You will support Hercules in “Go the Distance”. You'll want to mourn your love on “I Won't Say I'm In Love” – every song is fantastic.
The worst: I needed to see more Hades – Although I love “Hellfire” as my favorite villain song, Hades by Hercules He's one of my favorite villains, and it's a crime that he only had fifteen minutes of screen time. Yes, I know that's a decent amount for an hour and a half long movie, but I needed further From my daring ruler of the underworld!
Mulan (1998)
The best: Mulan's strong spirit in general – Mulan was the princess I grew up wanting to be. She is strong, witty, kind, sweet and a little clumsy. As the movie progresses, her personality, growth, and evolution of her fighting prowess make her even more interesting to watch.
The worst: those three soldiers we are forced to follow and please – Yes, I won't even lie, I passionately despise these three soldiers, the ones named Yao, Ling and Chien Po. I guess they're okay, but they were given too much screen time and, in the grand scheme of things, I would have preferred to see the movie open up more about Shang's character than about those three fools we're forced to like.
Tarzan (1999)
Best: Phil Collins, absolutely devouring this soundtrack – I don't know how Phil Collins did it when he wrote absolute fire For him Tarzan soundtrack, but these songs always rock my world every time I listen to them. Love you very much.
The worst: he is a forgettable villain, but a shocking death. Yes there are iconic villains from disney moviesand then there are villains like Clayton, a hunter who is just that: hunting animals in the jungle with devious intentions.
I mean, sure, he's a villain, but compared to a lot of other Disney villains, he's very forgettable. I will say that his death, where we see his shadow hanging from vines as he falls into the jungle, is shocking, but other than that, I barely remember it.
Now, this makes me want to watch all these movies again and enjoy each one of them. It's time to watch Disney again, don't you think?
