If you've been wanting to dive into World of Warcraft's new underground expansion, The War Within, there's a chance to do so before launch, as beta test sign-ups are now open.
The War Within, which was announced during last year's BlizzCon, marks the first installment in the new three-part World of Warcraft Worldsoul saga, which will unfold over the next few years. The War Within, specifically, takes players to the heart of Azeroth, where they will explore new subterranean realms, interact with ancient cultures like the Earth Dwarves (a new allied race) and the terrifying Nerubians of Azj-Kahet.
Other new features announced include short 1-5 player experiences known as Delves, Warbands (which allow players to share their bank and reputation among their alters), new dynamic flying for mounts, new dungeons and raids, hero talents, and more.
And now, Blizzard has announced that it will soon begin beta testing of The War Within ahead of its full release later this year, and interested parties can register for your chance to participate through their website. Blizzard notes that more invites will be sent out regularly during the trial period, so it doesn't seem like anyone should worry if you don't complete the first batch.
Once the invitations have been received, the players – depending on Blizzard announcement release – You will need to do the following to start The World Within beta testing:
- Make sure your graphics drivers are up to date
- Launch the Battle.net desktop application; It may need to update itself if you haven't run it recently. If you don't have the app installed, start here
- Once Battle.net is installed and updated, select World of Warcraft from the list of games.
- From the Game Version drop-down menu above the Play button, choose The War Within option (listed under In Development) and then click Install.
- Let the installation complete, click Play, and select any available test servers.
- Create a new test character or use the character copy to import your existing Dragonflight character
- Enter the game and try the available content
There's no arrival date yet for World of Warcraft's The War Within expansion, but Blizzard's roadmap from last year pointed to a likely release sometime this “summer.” All Blizzard's beta test announcement says is that it will come out “on or before December 31, 2024.”
